Getting to Hobart, Tasmania

As Australia’s only island state, access to Tasmania is by air and sea only. 

By Air

Regular flights depart from Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane directly into Hobart.  Multiple flights are available throughout the day into Hobart Airport. Click below to visit the airport website for more information about flights and travel to Tasmania. Car rental, shuttles and buses available.

By Sea

If you have more time and want to explore the region, travel can be made by sea on the Spirit of Tasmania. Departing from Melbourne and arriving in Devonport this is ideal for guests wishing to bring their own vehicle and make the most Tasmania’s touring potential. Several major hire car companies are conveniently located at the Devonport Passenger Terminal making sea travel a possibility for international guests as well.

Getting to The Grand Chancellor from the Airport

Car rentals, shuttle bus service, and cabs options are available for transportation from the airport to the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart. The Airporter Shuttle Service meets all scheduled flights into Hobart Airport and drops off at hotels, motels, bed and breakfast accommodation and hostels in central Hobart and inner-city suburbs.

Bus Service

SkyBus departs every 30 minutes daily.  Tickets can be purchased online or through a kiosk located next to the luggage carousels.  Buses stop outside the arrivals area (Gate 1) and drop off opposite the Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.

Car Rental

Serviced by multiple car rental agencies, there is bound to be one within the budget.


The taxi rank is located directly out the front of the terminal building.  A trip from the airport to the city will take approximately 20 minutes.

Getting around Hobart

take the private ferry from the Brooke Street Pier to the MONA in Claremont.  The journey is 25 minutes and costs $22 return.

Public Bus Transportation

purchase a Metro Greencard or buy single tickets and use public transport to get around.


Cabs are available throughout the city for quick trips.
